Dr Edward Bach was born near Birmingham in 1886 and trained as doctor in London. He work for several years researching the role of bacteriology in chronic disease, where he began to recognise that there were patterns between ill health and personality types - despite the physical symptoms presented in the patient.
Working with vaccine therapy and later with homeopathic principles he moved towards the discovery of the flower remedies. These, he felt, could help to harmonise the emotional imbalances that he came to see as the real causes of physical illness.
In 1930, he gave up his successful medical practice in order to search for the flowers and plants that could heal, and discovered 38 remedies which he describes in The Twelve Healers and Other Remedies. Each flower embodies the positive and harmonising force for a negative emotional state such as fear, resentment, despair, envy, apathy, rigidity, etc.
To transfer this healing force to a patient, Bach prepared essences from the flowers. These essences, slightly diluted, are taken as medicine where the negative moods shift so the person returns to a harmonious balanced state, and in this way the body is allowed to heal itself and the person returns to good health.
Bach Flower Essence Remedies are classified as a food supplements and not as a medicine. They are preserved with grape alcohol. The Rescue Night is alcohol free. Food Supplements are intended to supplement the diet and should not be substituted for a varied diet or healthy lifestyle.
